Abstract

669,480. Driving dynamos. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and GRIFFITHS, L. Dec. 5, 1949 [Feb. 16, 1949], No. 4270/49. Addition to 627,351. Class 35. A tachometer A.C. generator for a locomotive or rail car is incorporated in the axle box cover, the rotor being supported on a shaft fixed to the cover and provided with a magnetic shunt. As shown, the multi-polar rotor magnet 12a is supported in an aluminium casting on which a shunt 22 is adjustable and the rotor carries a pinion 11 driven from the pin 8 on axle 1 by an arm 7 and gear-wheel 9. The rotor supporting shaft 15 has a flange for securing it to the cover 14 or it may be integral with the latter, and resilient material may be inserted between cover 14 and the axle box casting 2.
