Abstract

673,869. Mounting dynamo-electric machines. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND), Ltd., S., and STONE & CO., Ltd., J. Aug. 18, 1950 [Sept. 1, 1949], No. 22687/49. Class 35. A tachometer generator is mounted on a locomotive crank-shaft, the stator being restrained from rotation solely by an armoured cable carrying the output leads of the generator. The rotor spindle 10 of the generator is aligned with the wheel axle by being secured on the outer side to an arm 3 extending from the crank-pin 2 back to the centre-line of the wheel axle. The spindle 10 has a non-magnetic extension 11 carrying a pair of imbricated pole-members 12, 14, magnetized by a cylindrical magnet 13 between them. The stator 22 is mounted on a ring 21 threaded into a fixed ring 20 by means of which axial adjustment of the stator with respect to the rotor can be made to effect calibration.
