Abstract

589,526. Alternators. ALEXANDER, D. P. March 24, 1945, No. 7500. [Class 35] An alternator giving constant frequency currents at varying speed has its exciting winding connected to three sets of brushes 120 degrees apart on the commutator of an exciter, these brushes being rotated at a speed proportional to the speed variation of the alternator. In the form shown, the rotary brush gear 14 of the exciter 7 is rotated by the outer member 19 of a synchronous motor which has its other member 18 on the shaft 4 of the alternator 1, the member 19 being mounted for rotation in either direction. The brush gear may alternatively be rotated by epicyclic gearing.
