Abstract

625,395. A.C. motors. SHARMAN, G. A., and HOLMAN, R. E. July 29, 1947, No. 20450. [Class 35] The stator of a synchronous motor for clocks &c. comprises two concentric radially spaced rings of axially extending pole teeth 6, 4 situated at one end of, but connected to either end of the core 2 of an energizing coil 1, the rotor having at least one ring of axially extending pole teeth 10 concentric with those on the stator. In the form shown, a soft iron rotor 9 has two concentric rings of mutually staggered teeth 10, 11 situated inside the corresponding stator teeth 6, 4 which are also mutually staggered. The rotor is shown pressed from a single disc, but in a modification a pair of discs each having one ring of teeth are secured together by a hollow rivet which accommodates the shaft. For self-starting motors, the rotor is polarized by a flat annular magnet secured between the teethed discs, the correct direction of rotation being ensured by a snail cam and stop. The rotor teeth may be situated outside or in line with the corresponding stator teeth and a manual starting device 12 is described.
