491,403. Alternating-current motors. WALFORD, H. N. Aug. 24, 1937, No. 23142. [Class 35] For preventing rotation of a small synchronous motor in the wrong direction, a rotatable member c in gear connection with the rotor is carried in a manner to permit lateral movement so that the member can engage and be arrested by a stationary stop h when the motor turns in the wrong direction. The member c may be driven directly or through intermediate gearing from a gear wheel b on the motor shaft a and limited lateral movement is permitted by mounting its spindle d in elongated bearing apertures g. In a modification, the shaft of the wheel c is mounted in a balanced plate freely rotatable about the motor axis, movement of the plate in one direction being limited bv an abutment and in the other direction by stop which engages the teeth of the wheel and arrests the rotor.
