Abstract
527,673. Locking synchronous motors against backward rotation. ELMS, R. April 18, 1939, No. 11737. [Class 35] To prevent backward rotation the shaft 2 of a synchronous motor driving an electric clock is fitted with an eccentric 1 which reciprocates a rod 6. If the rotation is in the direction of the arrow the rod slides freely over the lower pin 13. If the rotation is in the opposite direction a friction washer swings the rod against the upper pin 14 which catches a shoulder 7, and thus stops the motion. With another form of device, reversal of rotation slightly tilts the axle of a friction spring bears upon the flat side of an idly rotating toothed wheel which upon reversal of rotation jams against a fixed pin.
