Abstract

496,855. Speed governors. MULLER, H. March 5, 1938, No..6946. Convention date, Jan. 31. [Class 57] [Also in Group XV] A toy clockwork mechanism has a speedregulating device comprising a rotary member with a crank or eccentrically mounted member rotating in a gap in a pivotally mounted control lever, and in which the distance between the pivot of the control lever and the rotary member can be varied by swinging or sliding one of them. A spring motor 2 drives the wheels 6 of a vehicle and also a regulator shaft 12 which has a crank 13 at one end rotating in a gap 15 of a lever 14 pivoted at 17 to another lever 16 pivoted at 18. The distance between the crank 13 and the pivot 17 is varied by a lever 20 pivoted at 21 and having a slot 19 engaging the lever 16, and moving over a scale 22. With the lever 16 in its bottom position, the crank 13 rotates freely in the gap 15, the lever 14 remaining still with its lower end pressed against the casing. In any midway position the crank oscillates the lever 14, the speed of the regulator shaft being thus reduced. In the top position of the \ever 16 the crank 13 is unable to rotate. The gap 15 in the lever may be of various forms such as a slot of uniform width. In a modification, Fig. 10, an eccentrically mounted rotary member 13 is pushed by a regulating rod 16 against a spring into the gap 15 of a control lever, shaped as shown. In a further modification as shown in Fig. 11, the regulator shaft 12 carries a toothed wheel 27 driving a pinion 29 on a shaft 28 carrying a crank 13 rotating inside the gap 15 of a lever pivoted at 26, and resting by its own weight on the crank 13. The position of the shaft 28 is regulated by a lever 16.
