Abstract

598,748. A.C. motors. RILEY, J., and SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND), Ltd., S. Sept. 7, 1945, No. 23165. [Class 35] In a synchronous motor of the kind having a stator formed from a pair of sheet iron members having tongues extending in opposite directions parallel to the rotor spindle to form alternate polepieces surrounding the rotor, the field winding is arranged outside the space between the two sets of stator polepieces, one of said members being adapted to cover the mouth of the motor casing. As shown, one stator plate 2 is mounted on a hollow metal core 1 which also carries the winding 14, whilst the other stator member is composed of tongues 6 pressed inwards from a plate 3 which covers the mouth of a cup-shaped frame 10. Brass or other metal rotor bearings 16, 17 are pressed into the core, the latter being mounted in the plate 3 if desired. The shaft is held in position by a leaf spring 19, and may carry a fly-wheel 23 in addition to the pinion 18.
