Abstract
934,956. Synchronous motors. S. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND) Ltd. Nov. 7, 1960 [Aug. 6, 1959], No. 26994/59. Class 35. A small synchronous motor has an annular permanent magnet 13 fixed to the stator 1 to prevent axial movement of permanent magnet rotor 12. The magnet 13 and rotor 12 may be of barium ferrite. Opposite faces of the magnet and of the central area of the rotor each have opposite polarity and magnet is so positioned as to attract the rotor. The rotor 12 has a number of poles around its rim and has a soft iron spider adjacent, to assist in starting the motor. Cup-shaped stator members 2, 7 have cut away rims 3, 8 to form interdigitated poles. Coaxially disposed inside stator member 2 is a soft iron boss 4 carrying winding 5 on a bobbin 6, and bearings 9, 10 which support rotor spindle 11.
