Abstract

Alternating-current commutator machines.-A shortcircuiting and brush-lifting device comprises a metallic plate centrifugally operated so as to move into contact with the commutator segments, further movement of the centrifugal member causing the brushes to be lifted. In the form shown, the centrifugal device consists of balls 5 between conical members 1, 2, the former being secured to the shaft 3 and having grooves for the balls 5, while the latter can move laterally along the shaft 3 against the action of a spring 4. At a predetermined speed the member 2 causes a flexible dished disc 6 to short-circuit the commutation segments 7. The member 2 has a cylindrical flange 8, the further movement of which, after the short-circuiting, allows a pivoted plate 9, actuated by a spring 10, to raise the brushes by means of two bell-crank levers 11.
