Abstract
448,657. Water-tube steam boilers. SCHMIDT, M., 7, Carbacherstrasse, Kassel- Land, Germany. May 28, 1935, No. 15495. Convention date, Aug. 6, 1934. [Class 123 (ii)] The evaporating tubes 1, Fig. 1, of boiler units are connected to unheated or only slightly heated downcomers 2 by connectors 5 in which steam is separated and led off by pipes 6 while the water continues its flow to the downcomers into which fresh feed is supplied through pipes 3. Two or more units may have a common downcomer. Units may be connected in series, the riser coils 44, Fig. 9, of one unit being connected to the downcomers 47 of the next coil 45 the last downcomers 49 being led back to the first coils. The units may be so arranged that the risers 1, Fig. 5, line the walls of the combustion chamber. Water preheated in a coil 23 is supplied to the risers or to the lower part of the units through a header 16. In a modification, the upper curved ends of the risers project into the combustion chamber and in each group of units the upper ends of the risers project inwardly to different extent.
