Abstract

269,447. Marks, E. C. R., (Schmidt'sche Heissdampf-Ges.). June 1, 1926. Water-tube boilers.-In a water-tube boiler comprising groups of steeply inclined tubes 2, 3 connected to upper and lower drums and arranged over a combustion chamber from which the gases pass to the flue through only one of the tube groups, a superheater 16 is placed among the tubes 3 of the group adjacent to the flue to compel some of the ,ases to pass back among the tubes 2 of the other group. Some of the front tubes 23 of the tube group 3 are bent over at their upper ends and connected to the upper drum 5 of the other tube group 2. The drum 5 may be connected to an unheated drum 8. Feedwater passes from a feed heater B into the drum 5 and through unheated downcomers 10 or 10' to a lower drum 4, then through unheated tubes 22 to the lower drum 6, from which a part returns to the upper drum 5 through the front tubes of the tube group 3.
