Abstract

495,745. Steam superheaters. WHITE, W. A., and WHITE'S MARINE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Feb. 18, 1938, No. 5157. [Class 123 (iii)] Steam superheaters arranged in steam boiler combustion chambers a comprise a number of spiral coils c of inverted cone formation with two opposite sides of the spiral flattened and decreasing in length from top to bottom of the coil so that the heating surface increases with the distance from the furnace. The legs of each of the coils pass through tubes d to the superheated and saturated steam headers e, f which may be combined in a single casting g across the boiler back. The saturated steam header is preferably connected to the lowermost leg so that the cooler steam enters the hottest tubing. The coils which are self-draining are supported by straps m and bearers i from brackets h secured to the combustion chamber crown.
