Abstract
497,446. Steam superheaters. SUPERHEATER CO., Ltd., and MELHUISH, H. July 8, 1937, No. 18984. [Class 123 (iii)] The inlet and outlet legs 8, 9, of superheater elements 7 in a marine boiler combustion chamber 1 extend through an aperture 3 at the upper part of the back water space. Each element comprises a vertically depending multiple U-loop suspended by a sling 10 from a support 11 on the top of the chamber and is so shaped as to permit of withdrawal through the aperture. The superheater headers are mounted horizontally on the back end of the boiler above the level of the top of the aperture which is closed by removable refractory bricks, &c. The aperture may be oval or oblong in shape and stayed by vertical water tubes across it, e.g. in two rows.
