Abstract

168,547. Westgarth, T., and Taylor, L. Nov. 9,1920. Water-tube boilers.-In the boiler described in Specification 4619/09, the centrallydisposed steam drum is placed at the same level as, instead of at a higher level than, the top headers, the bottom of the drum serving as the top, or part of the top, of the combustion chamber. The upper headers b, Fig. 1, of the nests of tubes a arranged around a combustion chamber are connected to the central drum n by straight tubes m both above and below the waterlevel. The bottom of the drum may be protected by fire-clay tiles. Nests of tubes may be omitted to leave a space for a superheating- chamber 8, Fig. 4, having a front perforated wall 9 and containing groups of superheating-tubes 7. Alternatively, groups of superheating-tubes are arranged outside the nests of tubes on opposite sides of the boiler.
