Abstract
445,638. Steaming coke ovens or retorts. WOODALL-DUCKHAM (1920), Ltd., and KENT, A. T., 136, Victoria Street, Westminster. Feb. 21, 1935, No. 5570. [Class 55 (i)] In the production of a mixture of coal gas and water gas in intermittent vertical chamber ovens, the operation of a group of ovens is arranged so that carbonization is in progressively advanced stages in successive or different ovens of the group, and the oven wherein carbonization is complete is steamed to water gas which is passed while hot through the upper parts of the remaining ovens to mix with the coal gas generated therein. The charge in an oven 1 is completely carbonized and that in an oven 2 is at an intermediate stage. The former is up-run with steam admitted at an inlet 9 and the water gas passed into the upper part of chamber 2 where it mingles with the coal gas generated therein, the mixed gases passing to the foul gas main 4. The hydrocarbons in the coal gas are fixed during their passage over the top of the chamber 2. Any number of ovens may be operated in a group, four being described in a modification. Chambers in which carbonization is partially complete may also be steamed. The ovens may be heated externally by producer gas from a separate producer.
