[Class 126] In an imitation fire, in which flickering light from a lamp 4 provided with a spinner falls on a back reflector 6 to produce a flame and smoke effect, the lamp is coloured or provided with a coloured hood, there being in either case a small portion 4a which is uncoloured or differently coloured, and a screen 7 is interposed between the lamp and the reflector having in it light openings 8, of which some are substantially vertical and others inclined in such a way that the light passing through them appears to move upwardly on the reflector. The area 4a may be in the form of several thick lines. The screen 7 may be of metal, wire gauze, fabric, fibrous material such as glass wool, or of the same material as the imitation fuel 3. In the case of gauze, part of the mesh is filled in with an opaque substance. The openings may be covered or filled in with translucent coloured material. In the form shown, the screen is integral with the translucent imitation fuel 3, across the back of which it extends. In another form it extends horizontally forward over the lamp from the lower edge of the reflector 6. It may also be formed by stamping in part of the frame of the fire. The size of the apertures in the screen may be regulatable by means of a plate 9 which is adjustable to cover a greater or less portion of them. Specifications 413,293 and 413,369 are referred to.
