[Class 126] In an imitation solid-fuel fire in which a flicker device 15 transmits moving light beams to a screen to create an appearance of flames, the light is transmitted through a screen 17 which is formed of translucent or transparent material and is adapted to obstruct the passage of the light in order to produce the flame images on it, the screen in the construction shown extending above and behind the imitation fuel 24 so that the beams pass unobstructedly to it from the flicker device 15. The lightobstructive character of the screen may be produced by forming one of its faces as a matt or ground surface, preferably the outer face in order that extraneous light falling on it may be largely absorbed so as not to hinder the flame effect. The inner face of the screen may be smooth or polished. The screen shown consists of a sheet of celluloid or the material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Celastoid " with a metal frame 19 and is supported by brackets 20, 21. It is formed with an aperture 25 for the lamp 27 shich illuminates the imitation fuel 24. The central part only of the screen may be translucent, the edge parts being formed of opaque material, or darkened to render them opaque. Specifications 404,302 and 410,123 are referred to.
