426,887. Imitation fires. COLLINS, G. H., and COLLINS, H. F., Premier Works, Keeley Street, Birmingham. Nov. 22, 1933, No. 32573. [Class 126] In an imitation fire comprising a translucent or reflecting screen 17 on to which upwardlymoving light images are projected by a flicker device 16, the effect of a chimney opening towards which the " flames " appear to rise is obtained by placing the screen in the fireplace opening and darkening the upper part 20 of the screen, the darkened part being visible below the upper edge 23 of the opening, or, as shown in Fig. 2 by darkening upwardly converging side portions 22 in addition to the top of the screen. The flame images disappear wholly or partially on reaching the darkened portions of the screen, giving the effect of flames converging into a chimney. The curved screen shown is of the kind described in Specification 427,412, being translucent with a matt outer surface on which the images are formed. The screen may be composite, the translucent and darkened or opaque parts being formed separately, or the latter parts may be provided by a separate member on the interior of the fire.
