Abstract

957,591. Imitation solid-fuel fires. H. FROST & CO. Ltd. April 26, 1963 [July 19, 1962; Aug. 9, 1962], Nos. 27726/62 and 30482/62. Headings F4R and F4W. An imitation electric fire includes lamps 4 with flicker producing devices 5 and a viewing screen 9 which comprises a transparent or translucent panel 10 provided with a multiplicity of closely adjacent, thin, substantially horizontal, broken or unbroken lines which extend from one side of the panel to the other. A reflector 8 serves to reflect the flickering light from the lamps 4 through the screen 9. An imitation fuel moulding 3 is mounted above a heating element 1 and a heat reflector 2. The flicker devices 5 comprise apertured spinners 6 pivotally mounted on brackets 7. The lines are formed on panel 10 by abrading, scratching, etching or moulding, and may be wavy in form. The viewing screen 9 has a corrugated horizontal cross-section so that a plurality of forwardlypresented convex portions 13 are formed. The reflector 8 also has a corrugated horizontal cross-section, and may be coated with a suitable lacquer to give a more realistic flame effect. It is stated that the screen 9 may have only one forwardly presented convex portion spanning its whole width, or it may be flat.
