[Class 39 (i)] An indirectly heated cathode has extensions 2 made of copper, silver, gold or other metal which is a better heat conductor but a smaller heat radiator than nickel. The body 1 may also be of such material and, as shown, the body and extensions are built up of two parts. A thin layer of barium oxide is applied to the body and extensions ; 0À05 m.m. is the preferable thickness of this layer.
