440,780. Thermionic cathodes. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. May 21, 1935, No. 14828. Convention date, Aug. 13, 1934. [Class 39 (i)] An indirectly heated cathode has extensions 2 made of copper, silver, gold or other metal which is a better heat conductor but a smaller heat radiator than nickel. The body 1 may also be of such material and, as shown, the body and extensions are built up of two parts. A thin layer of barium oxide is applied to the body and extensions ; 0À05 m.m. is the preferable thickness of this layer.
