[Class 39 (ii)] One or more of the current supply wires 2, 3 of an electric discharge tube is, or are, sealed into the pinch 1 with the interposition of an intermediate layer 4 consisting of a kind of glass different from that of the pinch. The pinch, which is preferably of the normal rectangular type, may consist of lead glass, whereas the intermediate layer consists of calcium glass, and may be provided in the form of a tube which is slipped on to the wire and sealed into the pinch during the sealing-in operation.
