Abstract

408,185. Thermionic valves. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Dec. 11, 1933, No. 34831. Convention date, Feb. 6. [Class 39 (i).] A valve with the cathode preferably indirectly heated and with one or more grids has a grid made of a number of parallel sections of wire the thickness of which is less than 100 microns, and the carrier for the emissive layer of the cathode is of material which has a thermal radiation less than that of nickel. As shown the cathode 8 of copper with an emissive layer less than 0.1 m.m. and preferably less than 0.05 m.m., has a heating element 9 and is surrounded by a grid 11, the wires of which may be 50 microns or less mounted on support wires 12 and provided with cooling members 13. The " shadow ratio " between the width of the grid wires and the spaces between them is at least 1 to 4. The anode 14 is cylindrical. Gold silver or alloys thereof may be used for the cathode body.
