Abstract

430,587. Carbonizing - apparatus. DORNBROOK, F. L., 4426, North Farwell Avenue, and DREWRY, M. K., 3019, South Shore Drive, both in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S.A. Jan. 19, 1934, No. 1983. Drawings to Specification. [Classes 51 (i) and 55 (i)] Powdered caking coal is preheated and oxidized by flue gases from a furnace and then carbonized in a substantially static mass, without contact with the heating gases, for the production of powdered coke which is fed directly into the furnace. Caking of the fuel to be treated is prevented by ensuring the presence of a large proportion of fine particles, at least 50 per cent of the total mass, in the mixture so as to coat the particles of larger size. Apparatus for carrying out the process is described in Specification 417,555.
