Abstract

1341689 Agglomerating carbonaceous fuel AMERICAN MINECHEM CORP 2 Dec 1970 [5 Dec 1969] 57295/70 Heading C5G [Also in Divisions B1 and B2] Fuel agglomerates, suitable for feeding pneumatically, are produced by dispersing small particles of a solid combustible carbonaceous material, e.g. coal that contain incombustible impurities, in a liquid, e.g. water, with respect to which the particles are hyophobic, continuously passing the resulting dispersion, together with a wetting agent, e.g. heavy fuel oil, that will wet the combustible material in-preference to the impurities in the presence of the liquid, into and through an' agitation zone in which the resulting mixture is agitated so that the wetted particles form agglomerates having a reduced incombustible fraction, removing the agglomerates, liquid and impurities from the agitation zone, and separating the agglomerates from the liquid and the impurities. The agglomerates may be used as fuel for blast furnaces, as feed for coking ovens, or in the production of formed coke.
