Abstract

368,215. Carbonizing solid fuel. DOHERTY, H. L., 60, Wall Street, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignee of Loebell, H. O.; 5, Boulevard, Malba, Long Island, and Klees, A. L. ; 71, Indiana Avenue, Long Beach, both in New York, U.S.A.) Feb. 6, 1931, No. 35307. Convention date, Feb. 14, 1930. Divided on 368,485, and addition to 349,937. [Class 55 (i).] In a process of carbonizing solid fuel in a thin layer, as described in the parent Specification, the fuel is quickly moved into the carbonizing zone in which it is compacted, before carbonization of the free surface takes place. The fuel is deposited by the lower reach of a conveyer 90 into a hopper 140, from which it falls on to an endless belt 60 at the point of juncture with a hot rotor 30. A roller 144 holds the belt against the rotor. A trough 91 conveys the carbonized residue to the upper reach of the conveyer. A flue 148 conducts away the hot gases from the heating chamber 64, and an outlet 146 is for the distillates.
