Abstract

423,036. Cathode-ray tubes. RADIOAKT.-GES. D. S. LOEWE, 10, Wiesenweg, Steglitz, and SCHLESINGER, K., 39, Friedrichstrasse, Friedrichshagen, both in Berlin. July 19, 1933, No. 20332. Convention date, July 19, 1932. [Class 39 (i)] Braun tubes particularly for television comprise a cathode-ray source 14, means for controlling the intensity of the ray, a picturereceiving screen 1, means 15, 16 for deflecting the ray in two directions at right angles, a focusing system including two anodes 9, 12 between the source 14 and the deflecting means 15, 16, and an auxiliary concentrating electrode negatively biassed with respect to the second anode 9 and formed by a wall coating 4 between the anode 9 and the screen 1. The focusing system may include two cylinders 11 13 and be of the kind described in Specification 420,667. The screen 1 may have a metal coating 3 and be connected to the anode 9 or to a higher potential, the coating 4 being at the potential of the anode 12. To get sharp focusing, the bias on the coating 4 may be adjusted by a potentiometer. The coatings 3, 4, are formed as a single coating and the metal on the dividing strip 5 is then removed chemically as by nitric acid if the coating is of silver. Alternatively, the strip 5 before the coating is applied, is covered with paraffin which is later distilled off. The wall carrying the coating 4 is conical as shown, or may be provided with swellings. The tube is filled with gas at 10<-6>-10<-5> mm. pressure to reduce the operating voltages without introducing errors arising with higher gas pressures.
