Abstract
412,700. Doors for resisting fluid pressure. PICKARD, H. M. H., and LEEDS & BRADFORD BOILER CO., Ltd., Stanningley, near Leeds. March 1, 1933, Nos. 6254 and 21116. [Class 123 (i).] A detachable or hinged door 7 for a pressure vessel 3 is adapted to seat on the flat annular surface of a mouth ring 1, affixed to the vessel and is kept tightly closed by means of a number of pivoted latches 9 mounted between the mouth ring and a guard ring 10 coupled to the former by bolts 12. The tail ends 13 of the latches project beyond the outer edge of the rings 1 and 10 into slots 14 provided in a locking ring 15 rotatably mounted around the peripheral edges of the rings 1 and 10. Rotation of the ring 15 tilts the latches so that their lower ends 16 swing into position in front of the door and thereby lock it in position. The locking ring may be rotated by hand or by a worm 18 engaging a rack 19 on the locking ring. The mouth ring may be provided with annular packing 6 of L-section. Premature opening of the door is avoided by the interlocking of the mouth ring and the locking ring by projections from a tongue 24 which is held in its lowermost position when the vessel is under pressure by means of a safety valve 20 and links 21-22. The latter may be replaced by a spring-controlled lever operated by a cam disposed on the door.
