Abstract
365,215. Locks and fastenings. ELLINGSON, E., 85; Liberty Street, San Francisco, U.S.A. Oct. 25, 1930, No. 32137. [Class 44.] A lock mechanism of the type in which a lock casing extends transversely through the door while a bolt casing extends from the lock casing towards the edge of the door, comprises rotatable .sleeves 21, 22 provided withextensions 24 for operating a stirrup 19 attached to the bolt 14. The. bolt casing 8 engages slots in the sleeves 21, 22 to prevent axial movement while permitting them to rotate. A slidable locking member 26 operated by a knob 34 in the inside handle 23 has two lugs 27, 28 adapted to engage slots 29, 31 in the sleeves. To lock the bolt against being opened from the outside only, the member 26 is moved so that the lug 27 enters the slot 29 and locks the sleeve 21, while the lug 28 remains in an extension 32 of the slot 31 so that the sleeve 22 is free to be turned. To lock the bolt against being opened from either side, the member 26 is pushed in until the lug 28 enters the slot 31, thus locking both sleeves against rotation. In this position of the member 26, a lug 39 blocks the path of the bolt stirrup 19. A cylinder lock 36 is arranged in the sleeve 21 and carries an extension 46 which moves the stirrup to open the bolt when its cylinder 37 is turned by means of a key in the lock. As the cylinder 37 turns, a cam slot 38 therein engages the lug 27 and pushes the locking member 26 to releasing position, so that the sleeves 21, 22 may be turned.
