The present invention relates to an improved door lock with self-locking locking bolt.
Such locks are already known in which the locking bolt is displaced inwardly against the actuation of a spring by means of a key or operating knob, which knob upon rotation in the one or the other direction actuates an abutment member on the locking bolt for the inward displacement hereof. 'I'he advantage of such locks is that they are applicable to doors irrespective of which way they open.
Other locks are known in which the locking bolt can be held in three di'erent positions, and be released from the intermediate position upon closing the .door to which the lock is applied, thus providing possibilities of an extensive use of such locks.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved lock of simple construction in which the advantages of the above mentioned locks of known construction are combined.
In the following description the details of the lock according to the invention are explicitly explained with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 3 a detail of the lock mechanism.
I Aindicates a lock casing within which a locking bolt 2 is arranged for longitudinal displacement, being subjected to the actuation of a spring 3 for displacement to shot position. The locking bolt 2 is guided partly by the Wall of the casing I, and partly by a rotatable sleeve 4. Beneath the locking bolt the casing includes a displaceable auxiliary bolt 5 which, when the door to which the lock is applied is shut, is pressed into the lock casing against the actuation of a spring 6. This auxiliary boltI 5 carries an oscillatory member 1 which, when the auxiliary bolt is in its shot position and the locking bolt is in its innermost position, is oscillated upon striking the casing edge to a position in which it engages a shoulder 8 on the lower edge of the locking bolt 2, thus preventing this bolt from being displaced to shot position but stops it in the position indicated by 2', hereinafter called in the following its intermediate position.
The rotatable sleeve 4 is provided with an operating knob 9 and in known manner is attached to a cylinder lock I by means of a rod 21, that is rotated by means of the cylinder lock drum and is interposed between two lugs 28 on the rotatable sleeve 4. Furthermore, this sleeve carries a cam member II provided with an abutment edge I2 shaped preferably as the arc of a circle with the axis of the latch bushing as center, the arc being elongated to either side by two symmetrically disposed inclined edges I3. The cam member has likewise symmetrically disposed incisions I4. Adjacent; the cam member II the rotatable sleeve 4 carries two freely rotatable arms I5 and I6, to the free ends of which a loop spring I1 is attached in such a manner that normally the arms are held in engagement with a pin I8 attached to and projecting from lock casing, the arms I5 and I6 being symmetrical to the longitudinal axis of the locking bolt 2. 'I'he cam member Il has attached to its surface a projecting pin I9 interposed between these arms I5 and I6 as shown in Fig. 3. By this arrangement the loop spring I'I will be actuated when the rotatable sleeve 4 carrying the cam member II is rotated in the one or the other direction, and consequently will serve to return the arms and the cam me/mber to their centre position.
In this centre position, the abutment edge I2 of the cam member II will face a projection 20 on the locking -bolt 2, thus preventing the inward displacement of the bolt from its shot position, see Fig. 1. Upon rotating the rotatable sleeve 4 .by means of a key or the operating knob 9 in the one or the other direction for moving the cam member II out of its centre position, the cam will engage one of two symmetrically disposed abutments 2| on the rear end of the locking bolt, which will thus be displaced inwardly. When the door carrying the lock is opened, the auxiliary bolt 5 will be shot by means of its spring 6, and upon striking the edge of the casing the oscillatory member 'l will swing to a position in which a head formed thereon engages the shoulder 8 on the locking bolt, thus holding this bolt in its intermediate position when the key or operating knob 9 is released. In this intermediate position of the locking bolt the loop spring I1 will actuate the cam member II to a position in which one of the inclined edges I3 abuts the projection 20 on the locking bolt, which, however, will not prevent an inward displacement of the locking bolt when the door is closed, because the cam II will give Way to the pressure exerted by the locking bolt when striking the striking plate as the resultant at a right angle to the abutting surfaces lies to one side of the rotational axis of theArotatable sleeve, thus allowing the rotation. 1f by means of the hand the locking bolt 2 is pressed inwardly when the cam member II is swung in either direction out of alignment with the axis of the locking bolt 2 so far that projection 2l engages one of the shoulders formed by the incisions I4 in the cam member, the locking bolt will .be held in its innermost position within the casing.
When the locking bolt is in its intermediate position the cam Il can only be rotated for further displacement inwardly of the locking bolt, and when the cam in this position is again released, the locking bolt can only return to its intermediate position, and consequently any manipulation of the key or operating knob 9 cannot cause the locking bolt to become locked against displacement by the striking plate when the door is closed.
Upon closing the door, the striking plate will press the auxiliary bolt inwardly, thereby releasing the locking bolt 2 from its engagement by the oscillatory member 1 and allowing it to be displaced to shot position by means of its spring 3. The cam member is thus free to be rotated in the one or the other direction for inward displacement of the locking bolt by means of the key or the operating knob.
I claim:
1. In a door lock, a casing, a locking bolt having a shoulder thereon, spring means connected to the locking bolt for displacement of same to extended position, a rotatable sleeve connected to the locking bolt for displacement of the latter to retracted position, a cam member rigidly attached to the rotatable sleeve and having a stop face thereon, symmetrically disposed arms rotatably mounted on the rotatable sleeve, a spring member interconnecting the said arms for rotational movement towards each other, a pin on the lock casing for xing the position of said arms in a center position with respect to the axis of said locking bolt, a pin on the cam member for actuating the arms in rotation with said cam member, a stop projection on the locking bolt adapted to abut the stop face on the cam member when the latter is in aligned position with the axis of the former to limit movement of the locking bolt toward retracted position, a spring actuated auxiliary bolt slidably mounted in the lock 4 casing and normally held in retracted position and a pivoted member mounted o n the auxiliary bolt and engageable with the shoulder on the locking bolt to hold the latter in an intermediate position upon the inward displacement of the locking bolt toward retracted position by the rotatable sleeve and release of the auxiliary bolt.
2. In a door lock, a casing, a locking bolt having a shoulder thereon, spring means connected to the locking bolt for displacement of same to extended position, a rotatable sleeve connected to the locking bolt for displacement of the latter to retracted position, a cam member rigidly attached to the rotatable sleeve and having a forward stop face thereon and shoulders on either side of said stop face symmetrically disposed arms rotatably mounted on the rotatable sleeve, a spring member interconnecting said arms for rotational movement towards each other, a pin on the lock casing for xing the position of said arms in a center position with respect to the axis of said locking bolt, a pin on the cam member for actuating the arms in rotation with the cam member, a stop projection on the locking bolt having a stop face and shoulders on either side of the latter and adapted to abut the forward stop face on the cam member when the latter is in aligned position with the axis of the locking bolt to limit movement of the locking bolt toward retracted position and engageable with the shoulders on the cam member when the latter is swung in either direction out of alignment with the axis of the locking bolt to hold the latter in fully retracted position, a spring actuated auxiliary bolt slidably mounted in the lock casing and lnormally held in retracted position, and a pivoted member mounted on the auxiliary bolt and engageable with the shoulder on the locking bolt to hold the latter in an intermediate position upon the inward displacement of the locking bolt toward retracted position by the rotatable sleeve and release of the auxiliary bolt.
