Abstract
824,389. Covers for pressure vessels. LEEDS & BRADFORD BOILER CO. Ltd., and PICKARD, H. M. H. Jan. 20, 1958 [Jan. 21, 1957], No. 2148/57. Class 123(1) A closure arrangement for a pressure vessel such as a kier or autoclave of the kind described in Specifications 412,700 and 667,929 wherein a series of pivoted cover-securing latches disposed around the mouthpiece 7 of the vessel and swung into and out of operative position by the partial rotation of a ring 4, incorporates a safety device to prevent a mechanic being trapped in the vessel by the unintentional closing of the door. In the form shown the device consists of a plate 1 pivoted on a pin 2 carried on an arm 3 welded to the ring 4. When the plate 1 is in the position shown in full line it comes between lugs 5, 6 welded respectively on the ring 4 and the mouthpiece 7 to prevent the turning of the ring which would retract the latches and allow the door to be closed. When it is safe to close the door the plate 1 is turned into the position shown at C in broken line clear of the lugs 5, 6 allowing the ring to be turned in the direction B to swing the latches clear to allow the door to close. In a modification, movement of the ring is prevented by a latch which engages in a slot in the ring 4.
