Abstract

908,791. Coke-oven doors. WOLFF G.m.b.H., G. April 20, 1959 [May 2, 1958], No. 13319/59. Class 55 (1). The closure means for the levelling opening of a coke-oven door comprises (a) a closure member having a sealing device adapted to bear against a fixed seating on the door, (b) an expandable vessel adapted when expanded by fluid under pressure to press against a pivotally mounted bar and simultaneously press the sealing device against the seating, the closure member and the bar being pivotable about the axis of an upright rod into and from a closed position in which a latch is adapted to engage and hold the bar, (c) means for actuating the latch to release the bar, and (d) means for actuating the rod to open the closure member, means (c) and (d) being adapted to be engaged by an operator standing out of reach of the levelling opening. In Figs. 1 and 5, closure member 1, which is formed with a rectangular base which is disposed in front of the levelling opening and has a peripheral flange which projects outwards from the base, is pivotally mounted on rod 8 by means of two arms 25 and 26. A sealing frame having an edge 23 is mounted around the flange of the closure member 1, while a heat refractory protecting pad 24 projects from the base into the oven chamber. A plate 3 is movably disposed within the recess formed by the peripheral flange and the base of closure member 1, while an expandable vessel 2 is disposed between the base and the plate 3. A pocket 4 is provided on the outer surface of the plate 3 and this pocket receives the head of a bolt 5 which screws in and extends through a bar 6, which in turn is fixedly mounted on the rod 8. A lever 10 may be fixed to the lower end of rod 8 so that the rod may be turned. A pipe 12 with control valve 11 is provided for supplying the expandable vessel 2 with fluid under pressure. Alternatively, the rod 8 may be a tube which accommodates the pipe 12 or it may replace the lower part of the pipe 12 as the fluidcarrying pipe. A latch 13, which is adapted to engage the bar 6 so that the closure member 1 may be held in its closed position, is released by pulling on chain 18.
