Abstract
714,260. Coke oven doors. WOLFF, E. July 20, 1951 [Aug. 2, 1950 ; Sept. 6, 1950 ; Sept. 6, 1950], No. 17214/51. Class 55 (1) A door 1 for the levelling aperture of a coke oven is formed with a peripheral flange 2 provided at regular intervals with holes. in which are engaged screw hooks 3, a scaling device consisting of metal strips 4 and 5 being held by the hooks against a peripheral sealing surface formed on the door so that the strips project from the inner surface thereof to engage a sealing surface 7 on the door frame 6 when the door is in the closed position. The door is pressed home by turning a screw threaded bolt 31 against a crossbar 32 which is engaged in hooks 35 projecting from the door frame. The seal is adjusted if necessary with the door in position by striking the rear edges of the strips 4 and 5 with a hammer. A bracket 34 is provided for lifting the door into position. Alternatively, Figs. 5 to 9 (not shown), the door may be provided with hinges.
