Abstract
1,173,925. Windowed oven door. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 21 Dec., 1966 [23 Dec., 1965], No. 57213/66. Heading A4D. An oven door 15 comprising a window 45 and bolting means, is characterised in that the window may be closed by a movable shutter 78, and a movable interlocking member 99, is provided which is normally in a first position in which it prevents the door from being bolted but is moved by said shutter so that the door may be bolted when the shutter is moved to a position covering the window, meansbeing associated with the bolting means so' that a heat cleaning cycle can only he initiated when the door is bolted. In the drawing, which is a cross-sectional elevation, the door has three main elements, an outer decorative door panel 25, an inner door liner 26 and a floating inner panel 27. The window 45 is constructed so as to be protected from the high oven temperatures of a self cleaning cycle by the shutter 78 which is slidable from a position in the lower part 76 of the door. to the position shewn. A window opening is formed in each of the three elements 25, 26 and 27 i.e. 47, 48 and 49 respectively. The fluid and innermost glass sheet 53 is fixed by means of screws 36 and clip members 64, and sealed by means of gasket 65 sandwiched between the glass 53 and the peripheral edges of the window opening 48. The shutter 78 can be raised or lowered by means of handles 80 extending through slots 81. The door is bolted by operating the handle 96 which causes a locking bolt to swing out through slot 110 formed in the top of the stove and engage a keeper slot 98 formed in the oven door. With the shutter in its lower position, the keeper slot 98 is blocked by the interlocking member 99 so that the bolt cannot be operated. When the shutter 78 is raised to the position whence it covers the window 45, a finger 101 on the shutter engages the interlocking member 99 and moves it against the action of a spring to a position in which the keeper slot 98 is unblocked and the door may then be bolted. The door is held in its raised position by means of spring 92.
