Abstract
650,416. Sliding bolts. ASH, J., ROGERS, A., and ROGERS, A. L. July 30, 1948, No. 20295. [Class 44] In a door fastening device in which a bolt 1, Fig. 1, slides in a guide fitting 2 on the door to engage a catch 5 on the frame, the catch is trough-shaped and engages over the guide fitting to counteract lateral distortion of the woodwork. In the embodiment shown the catch 5 comprises a mounting plate 6 from which a V-shaped socket 7 projects having inturned lugs 8 at its upper end. The bolt 1 is triangular in cross section and slides in a guide 2 formed with a similar section by a flat plate 3, Fig. 2, and a trough-shaped one 4. On closing the door, the socket 7 slides on guide 2 to counteract lateral distortion of the door or jamb, whilst if the fittings are secured to the lower edge of the door, a bevelled edge 10 on guide 2 coacts with the edge 11 of lugs 8 to lift the door if the hinges have dropped. A bevel 12 on the end of bar 1 assists in closing the door by engaging the edge 11 and a second bevel 13 is provided for coacting with the catch 5.
