Abstract

926,669. Glass doors. PILKINGTON BROS. Ltd., and G. SHEPHERD. April 20, 1961 [May 6, 1960], No. 16180/60. Class 20 (3). [Also in Group XXV] In a glass door 1 having patch fittings 2, 3 mounted on the lower edge of the door for hinge and lock respectively (see Group XXV), a cover rail 4 slipped on to the lower edge of the door is U-shaped in cross-section, with its free ends turned inwards slightly to engage securely with the upper edges of the fittings. One end of the rail is closed and provided with a hole which, when the parts are assembled, comes into registration with a hole in the edge of the fitting 3, whereby the fitting 3 and cover rail 4 may be screwed together. At its other end, the rail 4 is held securely against the fitting 2 by means of dowel pins 23 mounted within a transverse bore 19 in the fitting 2, and urged outwardly into engagement with the cover rail by means of a ball-bearing 21 adjusted by a screw 22. After suitable adjustment of the screw 22, this end of the cover rail is also closed by means of a detachable plate screwed to the end of the fitting 2. The cover rail is formed with apertures for the passage of the hinge pin located in the fitting 2, the lock-bolt in fitting 3 and for the insertion of a key into a key hole in fitting 3.
