Abstract

830,159. Locks. YALE & TOWNE MANUFACTURING CO. March 21, 1958 [April 12, 1957], No. 11997/57. Class 44 A cover for a mortise lock mounted in the rebated edge of a door 7 or the like comprises a block 6 having a central aperture through which the body part of the lock is adapted to be passed into the door or the like, a part of the block being adapted to be mounted in a recess in the lateral face 7b of the edge of the door or the like whilst the other part is adapted to extend from the lateral face for cooperation with a complementary shaped part 10 associated with a keeper 11 mounted on the rebated edge of a relatively fixed surround, complementary door or the like 12, the block being adapted to be held in position by screws 8 passing through the forend of the lock and through the aperture in the block into the door or the like and by shoulders 6a formed on the outer end of the block engaging the edges of the forend. The block can be of a thickness to suit the width of the lateral face 7b of the rebated edge of the door or alternatively it can be made of a thickness equal to the smallest standard width of the lateral face and used with one or more distance pieces 9 if necessary. In such a case a pair of recesses is provided in the block and each distance piece is provided with protuberances on its front face and is recessed in its rear face to receive similar protuberances of another distance piece.
