A cabinet lock has a spring latch bolt 6, the tail of which has two recesses 10, 12 for engagement by a key bit, one of which 10, enables the bolt to be unlatched by means of the key, and the other of which 11, enables the bolt to be moved by means of the key beyond the latching position into a locking position, the bolt tail having the two recesses duplicated with one pair of recesses, one behind the other in each of its two longitudinal edges and in which there is an appropriately located keyhole and key guide 4 on each side. A spring biased tumbler 11 normally prevents movement of the bolt to the lock ing position but when the key is rotated anticlockwise its bit bears against an edge of the tumbler and swings it laterally so that the lug 13 releases a stump 14 on the bolt tail; when the bolt reaches its locking position the lug 13 swings behind the stump and secures the bolt in the locked position. The bolt, instead of being bevelled on both sides as shown can have a single bevel.
