Abstract
581,749. Doors &c. for resisting fluid pressure. CHIPCHASE, R. S. April 4, 1944, No. 6290. [Class 123 (i)] A fluid-tight door, escape hatch or the like comprises a frame 1 which fits the aperture to be closed and is formed with an interrupted flange, a closure member 2 which fits into a recess formed in the frame 1, an operating shaft which is formed with a quick-thread screw and is rotatably mounted in the centre of the closure member 2, an operating handle 12 on the shaft, a rigid locking member engaged on the screw and having radiating arms 14 of a length to overlap the flange on the frame but pass through the interruption thereof, and stops 16, 17 for limiting the rotation of the locking member, so placed that when the screw is turned to clamp the locking member the arms are arrested in position over the flange and when the screw is turned in the reverse direction the arms are arrested over the interruptions of the flange. In the form shown, the frame 1 has ears 15 which form parts of the interrupted flange. The screw may have an extension passing through a gland in the closure member 2, and may have a handle at either or both ends.
