Abstract
578,247. Doors for resisting fluid pressure. SWAN, HUNTER, & W. RICHARDSON, Ltd., and GUTHRIE, T. Aug. 14, 1944, No. 15484. [Class 123 (i)] [Also in Group XXV] A hinged fluid-tight cover 3, particularly for a ship's hatch, is provided with a stiffening flange and with stiffening bars 6 arranged in triangle or diamond form and projecting over the edges of the cover to receive the usual tightening devices 9 and, at the hinged edge, to be engaged by a screw device 13 (see Group XXV) for opening the hatch and holding it in any position and also for tightening it at that edge. The screw device may be detachable, in which case separate means may be provided for holding the cover in a particular open position and also separate means for tightening it at the hinged edge. The hinge comprises a pin 19 carried by lugs depending from a bar welded to the stiffeners 6 and to the cover and engaging slots in brackets 18 on the hatch coaming.
