Abstract

239,619. Andersson, C. B. June 18, 1924. Hatches.-In hatch covers of the type opening on a fore and aft line, the two parts D, D' are made of iron or steel, and one part D' is provided along the inner edge with an inverted channel girder d' and overlaps and makes a watertight joint with a girder d secured to the other part. The two parts of the cover are carried by hinges f eccentrically mounted on a shaft f<1>, so that when open the cover rests flat on the deck B, and when closed can be clamped down on the coaming A. The cover is provided at the sides and ends, with a flange E, which is secured at the ends by bolts G. In the case of long hatches the cover may be divided athwartships, and the sections secured when closed by an inverted U-shaped member secured by bolts.
