Abstract
1,219,048. Coke oven standpipes. KOPPERS CO. Inc. 21 Oct., 1969 [21 Oct., 1968], No. 51614/69. Heading C5E. The lid 25 and damper valve 27 of the standpipe 19 of a coke oven are operated simultaneously through an interconnecting rod 39. Clockwise rotation of the wheel 33 causes counterclockwise rotation of the cam 43 to close the valve 27 through movement of parts 53, 55. Further rotation of the wheel causes a pin 35 on the wheel to engage an arm 49 on the shaft 29 to open the lid 25, see Fig. 3 (not shown). On rotating the wheel 33 in the opposite direction, the arm 49 is engaged by a pin 47 to close the lid 25, the parts 43, 53, 55 subsequently opening the valve 27. The wheel is actuated by a double-acting cylinder-piston 69 carried on a larry car 13, which may have a similar arrangement 69, 73 at the other side, see Fig. 1 (not shown). The parts 69, 73 can be swung away from the wheel 33 in any position of the part 73.
