Abstract

1417341 Coke oven ascension pipecover KRUPP-KOPPERS GmbH 30 April 1973 [21 June 1972] 20563/73 Heading C5E Apparatus for actuating a coke-oven ascension pipe cover and valve comprises an hydraulic, pneumatic or electric actuator 12 connected to act upon the cover 9 and to react upon the valve 5, the arrangement being such that with the valve open and the cover closed the effort required of the actuator to open the cover is greater than that required to close the valve whereas with the cover open and the valve closed the effort required of the actuator to open the valve is greater than that required to close the cover. The actuator may have a lost motion connection to the cover and/or valve, e.g. formed by a pin on level 11 of cover 9 moving in a slot 15 of rod 14 of the actuator 12, the casing 13 of the actuator being coupled to lever 7 of valve 5. The actuator may be a linear actuator and may be controlled by a switch element actuable from the charging car or on the oven top, or by a programme device controlling the operation of the coke-oven battery. The effect is stated to be by virtue of the relationships of levers 7, 11 to the line of action of actuator 12 and the movement of counterweight 8 in the open and closed positions.
