Abstract
1,231,553. Coke-oven standpipes. KOPPERS CO. Inc. 30 Jan., 1970 [30 Jan., 1969], No. 4707/70. Heading C5E. The damper valve 19 and lid 29 of the standpipe 13 of a coke-oven chamber are actuated simultaneously by levers 23, 35 connected to the valve and to the lid and interconnected by a link 39. The apparatus operates as follows, starting with the valve 19 open and the lid 29 closed: a rotary actuator 57 on the larry car 65 moves an arm 67 clockwise to engage the lever 23 and move it to 23a, thus closing the valve 19 and opening the lid 29 through members 39, 35. The arm 67 is then returned to A. To reverse the sequence, a rotary actuator 59 moves an arm 71 anti-clockwise to raise the lever 23 and cause the lid 29 to fall and close and the valve 19 to open. A magnet 75 on the arm 71 engages a plate 55 which is raised and holds open a valve 51 on a steam line 49 so long as the arm 71 remains at T.
