Abstract

543,317. Door-operating appliances. NEWELL & CO., Ltd., E., and HOWDEN, P. Sept. 4, 1940. No. 13827. [Class 65 (i)] [Also in Group XVIII] A piston or other pressure chamber 20 has a door 22 fitted with packing 215 on both sides so that it can be reversed. Reversing is effected in a pressure chamber 21 by raising the door into the upper part of 21 by means of cable 33 and a hydraulic ram 38, 39, and then turning it through 180 degress by rack.and,pinion 41, 42, after which it is lowerd into closing position again. The door is forced against its seat by rams 31 acting on levers 27 engaging a peripheral groove in the door. The chamber 21 is closed by a similar door 23.
