Abstract
848,947. Operating doors of skips in shafts. PREPARATION INDUSTRIELLE DES COMBUSTIBLES. March 24, 1958 [Jan. 23, 1958], -No. 9377/58. 'Class 78 (4). The hydraulic mechanism for opening the door 1 of a skip in a skip hoist is operated through a cylinder 8 from power derived from the variation in tension of the usual balancing cable and is housed beneath and behind the body of the skip. In the construction illustrated liquid normally under pressure in an accumulator 9 can pass through a non-return valve 10 to the cylinder 8 when the tension in the balancing cable is low at the bottom of the wind, and is subsequently compressed in the cylinder 8 by the increasing tension in the balancing cable as the skip rises in its shaft. A valve 11 is subsequently operated automatically, as the skip reaches its discharge position, to connect the cylinder 8 to one end of a double-acting hydraulic ram 7 which acts through a linkage 6, 3, 2 to open the door 1. When the valve 11 is subsequently released the cylinder 8 is connected to the other end of the ram 7 to close the door. The linkage connecting the ram 7 to the door 1 passes over a dead-centre as the door closes to provide a lock. In an alternative construction the door 1 is hinged at its lower end and its opening is normally limited by a stop which is withdrawn hydraulically, should the skip be overwound, to permit the door to be opened beyond its normal position to lie within the plan area of the skip.
