DUMPING MECHANISM FOR CARS AND OTHER RECEPTACLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 8, 1921.
Application filed July 5, 1917. Serial No. 178,861.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KoNRAn MALoHER, a subject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, and resident of Teucherstrasse, Gleiwitz, Upper Silesia, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dumping Mechanism for Cars and other Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to cars or stationary receptacles which are emptied by opening the bottom or lower part of the same, and the invention comprises the details of construction hereinafter set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In order to render the specification easily intelligible reference is had to the accompanying drawing. in which similar letters of reference denote similar parts throughout the several views.
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the bottom part of a car or receptacle,
Fig. 2 a front view of the same,
Figs. 36 are similar views of two modilied forms ofthe invention, Figs. 3 and 5 being sectional views and Figs. i and 6 front views of the parts.
Fig. 7 is a detail view of the operating lever and Fig. 8 a similar view of the operating cam shaft.
Referring first to Figs. 1 and 2: The car or receptacle 5/ is provided with a door a at the bottom part of the same, hinged at c to the lower ends of lever arms (Z keyed to a shaft 6, mounted to turn in suitable lugs 7. attached to the body of the car. The shaft 6 is provided with a handle it by means of which the same may be turned. The lower end of the door a, when closed, rests on the inner flange Z) formed on the car. The shaft c may be turned by means of a. it mounted thereon.
The operation will be readily understood. When the lever 71 is pressed to the left, in Fig. 1, the bottom of the door will be withdrawn from the ledge 6, thus allowing the contents of'the car, or receptacle to fall out, as the bottom swings down around the hinge 0.
In Figs. 3 and a, the levers (Z are provided with lugs i and a cam bar 70 is substituted for the shaft e. The bar 70 is provided with cam surfaces m which engage the lugs 2' and, when the bar is moved longitudinally, force the lugs upwardly, thus turning the levers hand lever d to the right (Fig. 3) and Withdrawing the bottom of the door a from the edge I), so that the door will fall down into the open position, as illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6. In the modification the door may consist of several sections which are opened simultaneously. In the closed position the hooks Z on the shaft 70 engage over the lugs 0 and secure the car bottom in the closed posi tion.
In Fig. 7 pivoted levers p, pare employed which are connected up by a lever 0 and all the lugs i are operated simultaneously by means of a hand lever as will be readily understood.
I claim as my invention 1. Bottom closure for dumping cars and other receptacles consisting of a hinged cover having one edge supported on an inwardly located flange of the wall opposite the hinge, a hinge pin mounted on the receptacle, a series of lever arms depending from said pin and having their free ends linked to one side of the cover and means for'swinging said arms to withdraw the cover from the supporting ledge.
2. Bottom closure for dumping cars and other receptacles consisting of a hinged cover having one edge supported on an inwardly located flange of the wall opposite the hinge, a hinge pin mounted on the receptacle, a series of lever arms depending from said pin and having their free ends linked to one side of the cover, lugs projecting from the said arms and a horizontally guided cam bar to said lugs and oprate the said arms.
3. Bottom closure for dumping cars and other receptacles consisting of a hinged cover having one edge supported on an inwardly located flange of the wall opposite the hinge, a hinge pin mounted on the receptacle, a series of lever arms depending from said pin and having their free ends linked to one side of the cover, lugs projecting rearwardly from the said arms, a horizontally guided cam bar to engage said lugs and hooks on the said cam bar to engage over said lugs in the closed position of the cover.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
KONRAD MALCHER.
