410,034. Furnace walls. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Smith, A. R.; 832, Union Street, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Nov. 28, 1933, No. 33336. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1932. [Class 51 (i).] In a furnace, particularly for mercury-vapour generators, in which the walls 13 of the combustion chamber are lined with spaced fluid-heating elements each comprising a plurality of tubes 16 embedded in good heatconducting material 18, such as copper, and enclosed in an outer shell 15, passage of ashes and slag between the elements to the space 14 between them and the walls 13 is prevented by the provision, on each shell 15, of an extension 21 which slidably overlaps the shell of the adjacent element. In a modification, alternate elements have an extension 21 at each side, the intermediate elements being then formed without extensions.
