Abstract

293,756. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Nerad, A. J.). July 11, 1927, [Convention date]. Vapour engines.-In order to economize in mercury in a mercury boiler, an adulteration of mercury, e.g. an amalgam with lead, is employed. The boiler may comprise a drum 1 with depending tubes comprising outer tubes 3 and inner tubes 4. The latter are carried by a header 8 and form down passages 5 and up passages 6. The tubes 4 have double walls forming insulating spaces 7 and, in order to facilitate liquefaction of the amalgam at starting, conducting blocks 12 are placed in the spaces 7.
