Abstract

435,778. Discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Patent Treuhand- Ges. fur Elektrische Gl³hlampen; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin) July 30, 1934, No. 22193. [Class 39 (i)] To avoid condensation of vapour on the cooler central parts of the envelope of a vapour discharge device such as a sodium lamp, one or more bodies 8 of high thermal conductivitv each extend from the neighbourhood of an electrode 3 towards the central parts to convey heat to the central parts, the bodies being so arranged that the discharge passes between the bodies and the envelope 1 at least at the parts remote from the electrodes 3. The bodies comprise plates of iron, nickel or copper, corrugated or of cruciform cross-section and joined to cylinders 6 which surround the electrodes 3 and are supported from pinches 5. The bodies are connected together by glass rods 9 and may serve as auxiliary starting electrodes. In a modification, the bodies 8 are supported by spring arms from the walls 1.
